Welcome to the online tribute to Bob Pomeroy, Founder of Pomeroy Lodging.

Bob has had an impact on the lives of so many of us, in the organization, in the business community, and in his personal life. Known for his generous heart and ability to build long-lasting and meaningful relationships with people from all walks of life; Bob treated all employees, guests, vendors, partners with respect and attention. He was and always will be remembered by us at Pomeroy Lodging as a business titan and a trailblazer. This website is a space to share, reminisce and hopefully, to provide warmth in this time of sorrow.

Messages and Stories

Memories of Bob

Kim, Ryan and Connor: My Steeple Rock Capital team members and I here in Phoenix, Arizona wish to express our deepest sympathy and condolences at your loss in Bob's recent passing. I met your father only 3 years ago in 2017, however, he had an outsize influence on me for knowing him such a short period of time. At Bob's invitation, we were privileged to be hosted by Bob and Ryan at Kananaskis and Grande Prairie in October 2017 and have wonderful memories of that experience, particularly Bob's great hospitality as a host. Some six months later, I had occasion to travel with Bob to review a prospective resort opportunity in the US for several days, and again had a great time traveling and associating with him. Even though I have never met Kim nor Connor (but known Ryan personally), I feel like I "know" you all from Bob's taking time to tell me about you as we spent time together. I also recently enjoyed reading Bob's biography from which I gained additional insight and perspecticve. Bob taught and shared through his actions, and the fruits of his life are evident for all to see. You can be justifiably proud of a great family legacy from a truly unique and great man. Best Regards, A. Brent Payne

Our Best Man

Bob was my husband’s best man at our wedding 27 years ago. Throughout the years we rejoiced with his success as well we experienced sadness in our hearts when life would bring to him unpleasant challenges. We are downhearted by his departure from the physical world. Solace and comfort to the Pomeroy family at this striking moment. May peace be with him.

Working for Bob Pomeroy

I've worked as a lawyer on behalf of Bob, his family and his businesses for approximately 15 years. Bob was a true entrepreneur, a decisive a deal-maker, and a man of his word. He commanded any room he entered. It was a pleasure, and a privilege, to be part of his legal team for so many years. He will be missed on every front.

Brief Meeting

At a recent Western Lodging Conference I had a brief interaction with Bob. Along with the great success of the company, he struck me as one of those fundamentally decent individuals that are a credit to the hospitality industry. My condolences to the family and Pomeroy Lodging staff at this particular time.

Remembering Bob, from a distance.

I feel lucky to have known and worked for Bob, as a part of the Pomeroy Lodging team.
Before leaving my position at Pomeroy, I was lucky enough to get him to inscribe my copy of his book. As I read it today for the first time in a long time, it reminded me about the kind of leader he was, encouraging, generous and inspiring - he was never too busy for you. I grew to learn many Bob-isms during my time working at Pomeroy Lodging and working on projects for Bob was always an honour… and an adventure. I was always impressed how someone so successful, with such a legendary story, could also be so down to earth. He will be missed and I truly value the experience and lifelong friends that I gained working for the company he founded.

condolences from Girdwood Alaska

I only met Bob once; a breakfast at The Pond Cafe, Hotel Alyeska, Girdwood, Alaska. I left the meeting feeling better about the "new investors" in our small town. Bob was sincere, concerned, and immediately conveyed that he and his family would be solid stewards of Alyeska Resort. My condolences to the family from Pt Capital; as well as my wife Trina and daughters, Madilyn, Karis, and Elizabeth.

My sincere condolences

I had the pleasure to meet and sit beside Bob on a flight back from Phoenix to Calgary just a couple years ago, we chatted the whole flight and we had such a good time together. He even shared his snacks. About 1 week later, we got a signed copy of his book with personal note that if we were ever back in Scottsdale to come visit him....it meant so much to me, it’s too bad we never did get to share that bottle of wine... you will be missed. My sincere condolences to his family & friends.

Bob will be missed.

June 09, 1998 is the day that I started working with Bob Pomeroy. They say that a person stays at a job where they feel valued and treated as part of the family. Among the many things that Bob did for me, making me feel like part of the Pomeroy family was the most important one. Whenever Bob was around, and whether he was with family or business partners, he would always take the time to introduce me and would ask me how I was doing and seeing if there was anything that he could do for me. These small tokens showed me how much he appreciated me, and in turn made me feel lucky to be working with the Pomeroy family From the flowers on my birthday to the thank-you cards, words cannot express my gratitude for Bob Pomeroy. I will miss Bob very much. My condolences go out to the family. Mama Fara

BOB – A GREAT STORYTELLER AND TEACHER

I count myself fortunate to have met Bob in Grande Prairie and having been part of the Pomeroy Lodging Team. To me Bob was one of the great storytellers and a true entrepreneur way ahead of his time. His passion for the business coupled with his experience and hands-on approach to all levels of the organization made him a true leader and teacher. He left a huge imprint on the DND of the organization. Bob you will be missed!

Generosity

I have always thought Bob to be one of the most generous people I know. I have know Bob since 2003 he was always willing to stop and talk and just make you feel like you were a part of the Pomeroy family. In 2007 he and his then wife offered their beautiful house and yard for my wedding. The day of the wedding he opened his home to us and made my whole family feel welcome. I am grateful that Bob was there and took the time to make the day extra special.I will always remember his generosity. You will be missed.

Remembering Bob

I have known Bob since the late 1970's. We met working together for an entrepreneur in Ft.St. John by the name of Gerry Tucker. Gerry had numerous holdings and businesses in the area and Bob was his property manager. The stories about Bob are two numerous to mention from him calling some first nations members if Ft Nelson "chief" ( which he lived to regret after he got out of hospital" to us having an employee who as Bob put it had us hanging from the rafters and talking to the monkeys. Bob managed many properties in the Ft.St John area before during and after the first National Energy program put in place by the first Trudeau which left Ft St John virtually deserted. Bob was an expert in retail. He managed our A&W and the Cleanery for Gerry and also helped his uncle manage a men's wear store. I believe Bob got his first taste of the hospitality industry when he managed the Holiday Inn in Ft St John when it went into receivership during that period. There are several things that I will remember about Bob- the fact that he always had time to talk to his employees. When he came to the office he was often found talking to his admin staff, he always had time for the people who were on the lines making the operation work. He would be at the front desk of the hotel from time to time talking to the guests to find out what he could do better. One other thing was going to breakfast at Best Western in Athabasca and seeing Bob wipe his finger on the window sill looking for dust. He told me one of his priorities was to have the fastest internet and the best mattresses in his hotels and of course to have them squeaky clean. When you asked Bob how he felt you may have gotten and answer like "as fine as frogs hair and twice as smooth" I will always remember Bob and the world will not be the same without you to reminisce about the days we spent in Ft St John.
